Week Five Blog - Transmediation Revisited

Image
Transmediation revisited 30/08/2025 This week, I transformed the poem (Bloom) into transmediation through the use of AI. I took a literal approach to the words in the poem rather than focusing on what the poem could mean/the underlying concepts that the author could have been trying to introduce ( Leland et al, 2015) . Therefore, from completing the readings this week, I am led to believe that I have not fully engaged in the intended process of transmediation. But rather when referring back to the ( Leland et al, 2015) book chapter, I would have been categorised under the level one category: literal picture or explanation of the text. This is because I explicitly used words straight from the poem to create my images. However, in some cases took the words too literally to produce an image. An example is with the planting of the feet, which generally means placing your feet on the ground and not lifting them up, but for the context of AI, I produced an image of someone actually plan...

Week Three Blog - Audio

Image
Audio 17/08/2025 How does music guide the audience to make sense of a film or other multimodal text?  Through the exploration of the Walsh (2008) reading, as well as understanding the importance of using audio within films, podcasts, and music, etc. I have been able to establish an opinion and make a comment on the question asked at the beginning of the week's introduction. The question being asked was " How does music guide the audience to make sense of a film or other multimodal text?" and to answer this question simply would be that music holds the power and structure for creating and developing emotions of a multimodal text. It is seen especially in today's time, specifically with the ever-evolving use of apps such as TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and the use of reels, that music plays a huge role in the construction of this. When exploring emotions through music in the use of films, apps and other multimodal texts, the noise as well as the specific sounds used ca...

Week Four Blog - Film Production

Image
Film Production 24/08/2025  Through exploring the materials this week, I grasped a new perspective on not only the different aspects/considerations when making a film, but also on the way that books can make a person seem and the inferences made when reading a non picture book including the opinions and formations that occur through the use of words with characters (especially by exploring Fingerbone from Storm Boy).  By being introduced to the 2019 Storm Boy film, I have acknowledged the different portrayals of characters through the book as well as through both of the films, coming back to Fingerbone. He is portrayed as a wise man who seems to be of an older age, with a wrinkled face and not of any attraction. However, we can see within the 1976 Storm Boy film that Fingerbone is a younger man with long hair and not a wrinkle to be found. Although it is tricky when producing a movie that all characters are likely to match the description of the books. However, in this case, t...

Week Two Blog - Digital Storytelling

Image
Digital Storytelling 10/08/2025 While exploring the readings this week, I was introduced to the importance that digital storytelling has on children and adults alike and the power it gives to the producer/author when they are producing it. I, too, have experienced this power when creating my own digital story "all about me" as part of this week's tasks. It allowed me to include information and images that I had chosen or felt were important to me, and although given a set task of introducing and developing the video, I was provided with open-ended opportunities for the things that I wanted to include. This demonstrates uniqueness and makes it personal to me. However, someone completing the same task would/could use different images and tell a different story, one that is personalised to them. This is just one of the many upsides to using digital storytelling within the classroom or education setting. The image selected this week is the opening photo used in my 'all ab...

Week One Blog - Transmediation

Image
Transmediation  2/08/2025 Transmediation, as a word or concept, was not something that I had ever heard of or explored before. I had learnt something of a similar nature as a child within primary school, while exploring new terms and ways of accessing multimedia texts. However, nothing I had learnt felt as in-depth as the Mills (2011) text explains.  I was surprised to explore the importance of this development for children's learning, and how the incorporation of exploring texts in different ways with children, from as simple as turning a written text into a picture, has on their understanding of the wider world around them (Mills, 2011). It was also through learning the definition of transmediation described in the text written by Mills (2011) that I have been able to personally understand how I continue to explore transmediation both in the everyday world and within my teaching career.  An image that resonated with me while exploring this text, and through the mo...
